Documentation Discipline: Stamping, Notarisation and Apostille

The sequence matters. A practical note on getting documents executed correctly the first time.

Document rework is almost always a sequencing failure rather than a drafting failure. Stamping, notarisation and apostille each depend on the step before it being done correctly.

The usual order

For documents intended for use abroad, the chain typically runs in a fixed order.

  • Finalise the instrument and confirm duty treatment
  • Stamp the document correctly
  • Notarise where attestation is required
  • Process apostille or legalisation for the destination country

Practical safeguards

Confirm the destination country's expectations before starting, and keep originals together. Running the chain as one Gateway request avoids a handover at each step.
